ng. Earth=E2=80=99s civilians seem more like aliens every time=C2=A0The For=

niverse. Drake, a Vietnam veteran who served in the 11th Armored Cavalry Re=

about the nature of war and the military=E2=80=99s role in society. Full of=

by John ScalziIt=E2=80=99s a truism that old people start wars that young p=

rns that on its head. Sometime in the far future, the government has the po=
wer to make elderly men and women young once more. However, youth comes at =
a price: Anyone who takes the offer has to agree to fight in a vicious inte=
rstellar war, and once they serve their term, they can never return to Eart=
h. Sick with grief after the death of his wife, Scalzi=E2=80=99s hero gladl=
y enlists. What he finds is danger, but also a renewed sense of purpose and=
will to live.=C2=A0Old Man=E2=80=99s War=C2=A0is a clever and even sometim=
es funny novel, and a perfect military science-fiction book for the reader =
looking for less existential musing and more action and camaraderie. It spa=

by David WeberHow about a change of pace from all of the ground-pounding? D=
avid Weber=E2=80=99s=C2=A0On Basilisk Station=C2=A0is the first volume in a=
long-running series featuring Honor Harrington: a space navy captain, mast=
er tactician, and diplomat plying her way through a galaxy of war and intri=
gue. As a woman, Honor is a rarity in the male-focused world of military sc=
ience-fiction, and she is a compelling, well-developed character, to boot. =
The=C2=A0Honor Harrington=C2=A0books will really click with readers who pre=
fer ship-to-ship combat to boots-on-the-ground infantry action.Starship Tro=

by Robert A. HeinleinIn the far future, Earth is engaged in a struggle for =
life and death with a species of insectoid aliens: They=E2=80=99re smart, r=
uthless, and utterly dedicated to the destruction of the human race. Standi=
ng in their way are the men and women of the Mobile Infantry: an expedition=
ary force that brings the fight to the bugs wherever they are. Armed with p=
owerful weapons and armored in high-tech battle suits, the Mobile Infantry =
represents the best humanity has to offer. Heinlein=E2=80=99s tale follows =
a new Mobile Infantry recruit through the training process and his deployme=
