It is with great sadness that we announce that our mother, Kit Reed has die=
d. She hated the term =E2=80=9Cpassed.=E2=80=9DThank you, dozens and dozens=
of friends of hers, so much for all of your kind words and support over th=
ese past few months. If this experience has given us anything, it=E2=80=99s=
the knowledge of how many people she helped and how many lives she touched=
. It seems her kindnesses extended well beyond the literary world into the =
lives of folks around her in Middletown, Saint Petersburg, Baltimore wherev=
er she lived. Please take her page as an opportunity to tell stories, share=
photos, and, especially, if you feel comfortable, tell her friends of some=
way she has helped you in her life. That=E2=80=99s information that I thin=
k will be good for the planet. Funny stories are, of course welcome.If you =
are not comfortable in this public space, pm me for an email address. We ar=
e compiling memories of her for family.In lieu of flowers or gifts, should =
you feel compelled to give (giving is completely unnecessary), Mom would lo=
ve it if you donated a little money to the Walk4Alzheimer's, which not only=
puts money into research which is now, palpably getting closer to a cure, =
but provides support systems for caretakers of those with Alzheimer=E2=80=
=99s. We are doing a walk locally this year. Mom=E2=80=99s dedication, stre=
ngth, and diligence in taking care of my Dad amazed all of us. (link in the=
comments).It was Mom=E2=80=99s wish that no services would be held. No, no=
t a funeral and no, not even a nice meal where people gathered and told sto=
ries (yes, we asked). She said that even the best memorial services were ki=
nd of a downer and she said she wanted to be there and then just suddenly g=
one so that her friends would remember her in the spaces where she thrived.=
The sudden part was a bit more sudden than we were ready for.And on an ins=
pirational note, Kit=E2=80=99s last novel, MORMAMA came out the day she wen=
t in for a biopsy, and her last short story, =E2=80=9CDisturbance in the Pr=
oduce Aisle=E2=80=9D came out in Asimov=E2=80=99s Magazine the month that s=
he died. May we all be that dedicated, determined and prolific.Again, thank=
you. We have so much gratitude for my mom, but one of the greatest things =
