Applications for Rhetoric Society of America Summer Project

Applications are due by *October 1 *for the first ever Rhetoric Society of
America Summer Project!



In conjunction with the Rhetoric Society of America, the University of
Nevada, Reno will host the first “RSA Project,” a four day intensive
engaged, place-based research project. From May 20–23, 2019, eight working
groups of 25 participants each will collaborate with scholars and community
leaders to discuss how rhetoric intersects with urban development, local
politics, environmental justice, and systems of inequality by thinking
through the problem of university-community relations and university
development.



Participants will work with a rhetorical expert who is collaborating with
local experts and community organization to explore a different aspect of
how university strategic plans impact and relate to surrounding communities.
Participants will apply theory and criticism skills to fieldwork collecting
texts, oral histories, images, and other artifacts as part of the
project.  Group
findings will be compiled into an open access data visualization map that
will be presented to UNR and City of Reno stakeholders at a final symposium
lunch. Keynote for the Project will be delivered by John Ackerman, editor
of *The Public Work of Rhetoric.  *Local hosts Cathy Chaput, Lynda Walsh,
and Amy Pason are looking forward to welcoming all to Reno!

Registration for the event will open in early 2019, but remember that you
must first apply to participate in the Project before you can register.
