Job Posting: Black Studies (African American and/or African Diasporic Literature)

The Department of Black Studies at the State University of New York at New
Paltz invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of
Black Studies with a specialization in African American and/or African
Diasporic Literature from any period. Appointment begins in fall 2019. The
primary responsibility will be to teach courses within the Department of
Black Studies humanities core, including courses such as, Survey of Black
American Literature, Rap & Spoken Word, Black Poetry & Drama, Black &
Latinx Literature, as well as contribute to teaching required courses such
as Introduction to Black Studies and Senior Seminar. The teaching load is
typically three courses per semester. The successful candidate will also be
expected to demonstrate and maintain a strong scholarly agenda, to advise
students, and to contribute to the life and work of the department and the
college.


Required:
• Ph.D. in Black Studies, English/Literature or another relevant field.
Exceptional ABD
candidates with a firm completion date will be considered.
Preferred:
• Post-secondary teaching experience is highly desired.
• Experience mentoring and/or advising students with diverse backgrounds is
highly desired.
