'Living Precariously' (edited book)

We are soliciting contributions for an edited book that will address the lived experience of precariousness, ranging from seemingly banal, everyday uncertainties to catastrophes that have destabilising global impacts. 

While recent international events have signalled that we live in precarious times (e.g. the continuing chaos of Brexit, the apathy of global leaders towards the transnational silencing of journalists and dissidents), shrinking opportunities for stable employment and the silent automation of inequality have brought to the forefront that we are living precarious lives. Even as portents of collapse flash past our screens and news of the desperation of others seeking better horizons becomes pervasive, we ask: what if a similar fate confronts us? How do we endure the experience of living precariously, yet ‘get a life’?

'Living Precariously' will explore the effects and affects of the lived experience of precariousness. Bringing together international scholars, this interdisciplinary project will be informed by fields including cultural studies, media studies, trauma studies, political science, human rights studies and disability studies. 

Possible areas of research include (but are not limited to):
* aftermath of trauma
* lives in stasis 
* vulnerabilities 
* surveillance and/or intelligent monitoring systems
* fluctuating employment patterns
* increasingly utilitarian migration programs
* hardening of national borders

Proposals should be sent by email (in a Word document) to the Editors by March 1, 2019. This should include an abstract (250 words) and a short contributor bio (include institutional affiliation, position and recent publications). Please note that the submission date for accepted papers is October 4, 2019.
