*Boredom Society Reading Group, session 1 *A Centre for Postdigital
Cultures event

*Location:* All-Bar-One, Birmingham Airport, Terminal 1 (landside)
If coming from the Birmingham International train station, just walk out
from the Air-Rail Link, and you will see All-Bar-One on the upper level
above Boots and Gamedeck.



Boredom is an elusive, fundamental and largely unacknowledged emotion which
can be seen as a dark matter of the media universe, with entire digital
economies organised around the evasion of it, and as portal to disaster
(drug abuse, crime, even violence) or a source of creativity and wellness.
Contemporary boredom is, in part, distinct from 19th and 20th century
versions in the way it is specific to digital ubiquity, the time of the
smartphone and the neoliberal management of subjects’ attention and sense
of value or worthlessness. Boredom today isn’t over, nor is it the same, so
what is it?
