*19.8 Borders and bodies of control*

We are living in times where borders and bodies are the subject of control;
borders of all kinds – physical, geographic, national, environmental,
psychological, digital, representational, and beyond. In this special
edition of C&C for Feminist Media Studies, we explore a myriad of
boundaries: systems, structures, practices, and cultures of control over
people, communities, spaces, and bodies, and multiple forms of resistance
and responses to borders and boundaries. We invite contributions of no more
than 1500 words, as well as experimental and multi-modal contributions. We
are particularly interested in submissions from practitioners’ perspectives.



This edition of Commentary and Criticism interrogates the rise of new and
old notions, politics, and practices of borders and containment. We invite
works that interrogate emerging forms of borders and control that are
rendered invisible or opaque. Some questions that come to mind, but are by
no means prescriptive, include: what feminist responses and practices are
emerging that maintain, resist, and/or generate greater liberation from
control? Are there important geographies, policies, media practices, or
other dimensions of study that are not easily recognizable as relations of
control, particularly over gendered bodies? We invite short essays which
cast local, global, transnational and/or national perspectives on borders,
bodies, and control in different contexts, or forms of policy or practice.



The Commentary and Criticism section of *Feminist Media Studies* aims to
publish brief (~1000 words), timely responses to current issues in feminist
media culture, for an international readership. Submissions may pose a
provocation, describe work in progress, or propose areas for future study.
We will also consider book and event reviews, as well as contributions that
depart from traditional academic formats. We encourage all submissions to
strategically mobilise critique to also offer a productive contribution to
both feminist politics and media studies. Submissions must go beyond mere
description in order to be considered for publication in Commentary and
Criticism.

expressions of interest in advance of the deadline.



Submissions for Commentary and Criticism will not be correctly processed if
submitted through via the *Feminist Media Studies* website, and should be
