A Society of Historians of East European, Eurasian and Russian Art and
Architecture SHERA-sponsored panel, a membership meeting, and a dinner will
take place during the 2016 Annual Convention of the Association of Slavic,
East European and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), November 17-20, in Washington,
D.C. Marriott Wardman Park, followed by a complimentary tour of the Hillwood
Mansion and open entrance to Gardens and Special Exhibits.
On Wednesday, December 14, the Latrobe Chapter will present "Papertrails and

monuments on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Persepolis and look at early
20th-century polychrome Persian architecture displays in Washington, D.C.
SAH welcomes its newest chapter SAH-PGH (Pittsburgh)! The chapter recently
led a walking tour through East Allegheny, which attracted local artists,
architects, preservationists, developers, university faculty and a couple of
scholars from Germany and Romania. The chapter aims to build a diverse
membership of local professionals and academics from nearby universities and
museums. Check out the chapter's Facebook group.
In New Orleans at our annual conference, SESAH announced the recipients of
the 2016 publication awards: Kenneth Hafertepe's book The Material Culture
of German Texans (Texas A&M Press); Dana Byrd's article "Motive Power: Fans,
Punkahs, and Fly Brushes in the Antebellum South," in Buildings and
Landscapes; and Louis Nelson's essay, "The Falmouth House and Store: The
Social Landscapes of Caribbean Commerce in the Eighteenth Century," in
Building the British Atlantic World.
On the occasion of its10th anniversary, EAHN invites scholars to join them
in rethinking one of their founding questions, namely, how to interpret the
inextricable ties between knowledge and geopolitics, an issue that arose
from the naming of their network. Papers are invited for a special issue of
the EAHN journal Architectural Histories. The deadline to submit is December
31.
