>"Changes in the discourse about Russian and East European Art after 1990"

>This region of the world underwent historic changes in 1989-90. Scholars
>participating in this session are invited to explore how the scholarship
>regarding the classic avant-garde as well as the contemporary art of this
>region have been affected, both East and West, by the demise of communism
>and the fall of the wall. These questions are timely as more than 15 years
>have passed since the beginning of a new historic era in Russia and
>Eastern Europe, so we can have a perspective on new developments.

>Has the art of Russia and Eastern Europe become more integrated into the
>main narrative of Western art for the last decade and a half? Have
>research, publications, curatorial work, and art criticism been steadily
>advancing since 1990, or is there any different pattern (progress and/or
>setbacks) in scholarship? Has the opening up of previously hard-to-access
>archives brought about changes in scholarship? How far has the art world
