FIFTH (and final) FITZWILLIAM COLLOQUIUM IN RUSSIAN STUDIES

The fifth and final in what has been a remarkably successful series of 
colloquia in Russian studies will take place from Wednesday 31 August to 
Friday 2 September 2011 in the Wilson Centre at Fitzwilliam College 
Cambridge. The colloquium will reflect one of Professor Anthony Cross's 
major areas of research and will mark his 75th birthday later that year.

The theme is:

BRITISH PERCEPTION AND RECEPTION OF RUSSIAN CULTURE, 18th-20th CENTURIES.

The colloquium will follow the established pattern: 24 twenty-minute papers 
delivered at eight plenary panels. Proposals for papers are welcomed on any 
topic within the area, but panels are envisaged, for instance, on: cultural 
intermediaries; translators and translations; English/Scottish/Welsh 
translations of a Russian poem or novel or short story; reactions to a 
Russian painter/painting; composer/opera, ballet, symphony; director/film; 
exhibitions of Russian culture in Britain; Russian influences on work of 
individual British artist/composer/writer/poet; British interpretations of 
development of Russian history or literature.

The Proceedings of the colloquium will be published and papers must be 
submitted in their publishable variant prior to the conference (but will 
not be circulated), so that, with due allowance for modifications arising 
from discussions at the colloquium, publication may follow soon afterwards. 
It must be stressed, however, that articles will be submitted for peer 
review and not all papers will be included in the published volume 
(although they may be 'posted'). The language of the colloquium and 
publication will be English.

The number of participants is limited to 55. As is the tradition, the 
package is all-inclusive - all meals including a sumptuous banquet, 
two-nights en-suite accommodation (single or double), ample wine.
