I am not a regular member of this list but was referred to it after posting a query on H-Russia. I am an historian of the US, doing work currently on the 1930s. I've become interested in the career of Victor Arnautoff, who was born in Russia, came to the US at the end of the Revolution, studied art in Mexico with Diego Rivera, did some spectacular fresco murals in San Francisco during the 1930s, taught art at Stanford until 1963, then returned to the Soviet Union, lived in Leningrad, and did several murals in the USSR before his death in 1979. I have learned of a book, Иваненко Ю.М., Виктор Арнаутов: Жизнь и творчество. Санкт-Петербург, 2007, but cannot find it listed in World Cat for any US library, so it's unlikely that I'll be able to get it through my university's InterLibrary Loan. Do any of you know of a copy of that book in a US library? Failing that, do any of you know of murals by Arnautoff in Moscow or St. Petersburg? I plan to be in those cities in late October and would like to photograph his late work if it is possible to do so. Thanks.
