Soviet-era newspapers with photomontage are often overlooked despite their
increasing use throughout the 1930s.  

 

The newspaper size is poster-like, offering an ample field for artistic work
beyond the book or journal format. The ephemeral nature of newspapers and
their limited distribution in the West makes them difficult to find. 

 

While Klutsis' photomontage work has been illustrated and exhibited as
examples of that genre, there are other artists, both known and anonymous,
who contributed photomontage newspaper designs that are well worth
examining.

request.
