Continuing the study of the TASS Window series in the cultural context of
World War II, presenters at the Art Institute will address the complex
relationship between the Soviet power structure and artistic expression in
the perilous 1940s. Speakers include: Evgeny Dobrenko, Michael Geyer,
Konstantin Akinsha, Yuri Tsivian, Michael David-Fox and Sheila Fitzpatrick.

Presented in conjunction with the Art Institute of Chicago exhibition *Windows
on the War: Soviet TASS Posters at Home and Abroad, 1941–1945*, this
symposium is part of a series of academic programs in Chicago devoted to
