Readings on Russian Icons

Just to add to the discussion, I use several of the items already mentioned when I teach my survey of Russian art, and also recently incorporated the first two chapters of *Hidden and Triumphant: The Underground Struggle to Save Russian Iconography* by Irina Yazykova (foreword by Wendy Salmond), 2010. Those chapters are titled "Icons as a Witness to Eternity within a World of Change" and "Perfect Artists and Philosophers of Highest Wisdom: The Iconographic Tradition, 900-1900." They seemed to work well for the students. I also wrote an introductory essay on the meaning of the icon for an exhibition catalog several years ago and if anyone would like this in a .pdf I am happy to send to you.
