Dear Colleagues,

The College Art Association has asked its affiliated societies to help
with a survey on the uses of images. This survey is for anyone who uses
images in a scholarly, educational, or other professional context. We
strongly encourage you to take the survey, even if you are not a CAA
member, no matter where you live and work.

Below is a message from Linda Downs, Executive Director of CAA, to explain
the project.

Best regards,
Margaret Samu

I am writing to ask for your help with an important project. The College
Art Association is conducting research in the visual arts community on uses
of third party copyrighted images and other works with the goal of creating
a code of fair use practices for scholars, artists, teachers, and museum
professionals. An essential part of this research is gathering information
from a broad cross-section of the field. To that end we have prepared a
survey, which we are sending to CAA members this week. It would strengthen
the research enormously if we could include your feedback in this survey

A description of the entire project is included in this press release
announcing support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation:

Completed questionnaires are due by *March 22, 2013.*

Thank you in advance for your help.

With best wishes,

Linda Downs
