Dear all, May I draw your attention to the publication of a volume of memoirs by the art historian Igor Golomstock (author of the ground-breaking Totalitarian Art, which I translated long ago)? There is a lot of interesting and unusual material here: childhood in Kolyma; insights into what it was like to work at the Pushkin Museum; Igor’s long friendship with Andrey Sinyavsky, and with the artists Boris Sveshnikov and Oleg Kudryashov; an analysis of the conflict between Sinyavsky and Solzhenitsyn; and much more.
