Hi all,

in autumn I'm teaching a class for 3rd-year undergraduates entitled 'Hollywood auteurs. Howard Hawks and John Ford.' My query is twofold: I can show a maximum of 12 films in the semester, or, if equally divided, six films each per director. Considering this is pretty much an introductory course concerning both filmmakers and the question of authorship, which films would list members suggest I select from either oeuvre?

Secondly, under the circumstances which are the most accessible and 'best' anthologies or monographs on either director?

I've got a fair amount of materials together, but would love to read your opinions.
