[[email protected]] If I had to pick only 6 of Hawk's films to show they would be, in the following order of importance: The Big Sleep Bringing up Baby His Girl Friday Red River Only Angels Have Wings Ball of Fire I think that list showcases some of his best films, as well as his range as a filmmaker and together demonstrate many of his hallmarks as an auteur. (They are also all entertaining and I have found my students like most of them.) Three Hawks books that I found interesting are: Howard Hawks Storyteller by Gerald Mast, Howard Hawks American Artist edited by Jim Hillier & Peter Wollen and Howard Hawks A Jungian Study by Clark Branson.
