Jobs in film

As we get into another job seach/hunting season, it is perhaps time for a
note to H-Film subscribers who are either advertising jobs or looking for
jobs.  H-Net runs a jobs list, and it does include listings for jobs in
film and media studies.  But there is a charge for the listing, and the
income from the jobs list is part of what supports H-Net.  Consequently,
list editors have been asked only to pass on job announcements that have
first been submitted to H-Jobs.

That puts us in an awkward position--we want to help out, but we also do
not want to undercut one of the few sources of income that H-Net has.  And
we also recognize that budgets of colleges everywhere are very
cramped--particularly at state institution--and that it is often difficult
or impossible for you all to get funding to list your job with H-Jobs.

We will continue to follow H-Net guidelines, which will continue to limit
the number of jobs we can post to the H-Film list.  But in recognition of
the situation  and the need for jobs to be both seen and found, we think it
is important to mention other places where film jobs get posted,
particularly where they might get posted when programs cannot get funding
to list on H-Jobs.

One of those places is the UFVA website,which is, I believe, available to
non-members at http://www.ufva.org/jobs.  It may be a place where film jobs
can be posted and found when they cannot be found on H-Jobs.  If any of you
wish to mention other places where jobs can be posted and discovered, we
will try to share that information with list members.
