Adaptation and 3-D--two responses

For what it is worth, I'd recommend:

Film based on a novel: Alfonso Cuaron's A LITTLE PRINCESS or Jean Renoir's
THE SOUTHERNER
Film based on a short story: John Sturges' BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK or John
Huston's THE DEAD
Film based on a graphic novel: Terry Zwigoff's GHOST WORLD

These are films that I would love to watch again and again and that I think
hold up as cinema as well as adaptations.

For adaptation of a short story to film:

An assortment of Ida Fink's short stories are the basis of the film SPRING
1941, although one--the title of which escapes me right now--seems more
closely related to the film than others.  I'll look into it.

Question: what about film adaptations of theatrical productions (A FEW GOOD
MEN, A SOLDIER'S TALE, LES MIZ, CHICAGO, RENT, DOUBT, etc.)?
