This is cross-cut with her brother Gianni committing suicide - still hoping that Sandra will come and save him. These may easily appear like two simultaneous lines of events, but actually Gianni must have died during the night while we Sandra in the morning. The temporal structure makes the point that Sandra has abandoned Gianni seem very poignant.
