The Department of Media Arts at Royal Holloway offers fully funded doctoral=
 research awards for suitably qualified applicants, starting in September 2=
014. Awards will be funded through applications to our new AHRC backed TECH=
NE awards system, where Royal Holloway is a partner in a consortium with si=
x other colleges and universities in London and South East England.  =A3380=
, 000 is available for funded studentships across our Arts Faculty. TECHNE =
is working with a number of prestigious extra-academic institutions to enha=
nce training and employment opportunities: these include the BFI, the Barbi=
can, and the Museum of London.
The department offers doctoral supervision in a wide range of specialist ar=
eas in film and television studies.  We have internationally recognised res=
earchers in fields such as British film and television, Hollywood, Asian an=
d diasporic European cinema, avant-garde film and video art, documentary, c=
ultures of celebrity and television history, technology and aesthetics. We =
also provide expert supervision of PhDs by Creative Practice.

 Initial enquiries about study in Media Arts at Royal Holloway should be di=
rected to Prof. Christopher Townsend, [email protected]<mailto:c.townse=
[email protected]>. We will then discuss your project and possible supervisors,=
 prior to application. Applications under the TECHNE scheme will close on 1=
9 February 2014. We will be able to advise the result of the TECHNE applica=
tion by 5 May 2014.
Unsuccessful applicants to TECHNE will be automatically considered for fund=
ing by Royal Holloway Faculty bursaries. We will accept applications outsid=
e the TECHNE scheme after 19 February, and there will be some opportunities=
 for Faculty funding for applicants missing the TECHNE deadline but applyin=
g before 1 April 2014.
