"NIE"

Come and enjoy this live band with experimental music.

Starting at 8:30 pm

Come and enjoy Jazz and Blues with Jake Cortes and The Recipe For=20
Trouble.

Based out of the Rio Grand Valley, these trios of music enthusiast=20
represent the best in its region. Jake Cortes and the Recipe For=20
Trouble have an eclectic sense of style and influence, from your=20
favorite rock and roll and blues, to your heart felt romantic sound.=20
Writers of their own original music and new renditions of classics=20
such as Johnny Cash, Steve Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Hendrix, and The=20
Eagles, this band of gypsies symbolizes the return of a lost era of=20
original sound and music.

Leading this band of original talent is Jake Cortes, born and raised=20
in South Texas, started learning his craft at the age of three=20
thought his first influence, his father. Right after graduating from=20
high school he took his natural gift and attends Del Mar College in=20
Corpus Christi, Texas studying classical music as well as jazz and=20
opera. At an age of 17, he played his first acoustic show at a local=20
bar and restaurant displaying his undeniable talent and writing the=20
hearts of locals and earning the respect of music enthusiast.

Taking his performance to the next level, he brought in=20
percussionist Lee Rodriguez, and Bass player Victor Ramirez. Lee=20
Rodriguez, like Jake, was first influenced thought his father at an=20
early age. While growing up, he improves his skills by attending=20
workshops and became a part of the Drummer Collective in New York.

Now, aside from playing with the band, he teaches workshops to help=20
young spring's drummers and percussionists learn their craft and=20
advance themselves to the next level.

Bass player Victor, Ramirez, current college music major at the=20
University of Texas Pan American, started learning music at the age=20
of four at the piano. Soon after finding a love for music, he learns=20
how to play drums, guitar and bass.

This trio symbolizes the heart of music enthusiast all over the=20
world by studying and practicing their craft, honoring the music=20
legends that set the path before them, and creating original works=20
of art, knowing as music.

Starting at 10:00 pm

Admission $5.00

Minors $6.00

In the Red and Bensen Groove Lab

Homegrown here, in the Rio Grande Valley, Bentsen Groove Lab has=20
long established roots in Mcallen where drummer Jacob Cardenas, and=20
vocalist/guitarist Albert Gonzalez first met almost ten years ago...

Recently reunited, they joined with bassist Ronnie Luna, and began=20
to arrange origional pieces of music written by Albert in earlier=20
years. With songs such as "Apperitions" and "Dirty Thoughts", one's=20
bound to shake their ass, and rock their head. Songs like "All My=20
Sins," remind us that everyday is so worth living. Heavenly=20
influenced by a wide variety of music from bands such as The Red Hot=20
Chili Peppers, 311, and The Beatles, it is unique and eclectic with=20
inspired lyrics, sound, and rhythm that has come to be known as=20
Bentsen Groove Lab!

ECO BASE Soundsystem

Come and enjoy this special night with one of the best discs of the=20
genre .

Echo Base Soundsystem ::

Finally, from the Third Coast, Austin Texas, comes an impressive=20
new CD from Echo Beat Sound System. This band, formed only three=20
years ago, looks and sounds like the future of Texas, with three=20
dreads, three Latinos, and a certain laid-back home-grown=20
eclecticism that is common among Austin artists. These guys are=20
clearly absorbing influences that include, but go far beyond,=20
traditional dub reggae. The first couple of cuts, "Glitchopolis"=20
and "Nyingje," are perhaps the closest thing I've heard in the U.S.,=20
outside of Ben Wa, to the sort of synthesizing, post-reggae dub=20
coming out of Europe. "Niko" has a meditiative, Augustus Pablo feel.=20
As the album progresses, so does the experimentation, with the beats=20
sometimes venturing into drum and bass territory, or essentially=20
unclassifiable, sometimes meandering excursions. By the seventh and=20
final cut, "Dervish," what we are hearing is really ambient=20
or "chill out" music. I like it, but it's not for dub=20
traditionalists.

=20

Starting at 9:00 pm

Admission $3.00

Minors $4.00
