PLAY DIRECTOR WANTED:

The Rantoul Theatre Group is seeking a play director to direct our May production of "The Silver Queen."

“The Silver Queen” is a western comedy written by local Urbana author James C. Dedman.

The set is a basic western saloon. Think of any western movie or TV saloon, such as Miss Kitty's "Gunsmoke’s Long Branch Saloon,” for example.

A widow from the east inherits her dead husband's gold mine and saloon. When she gets to Leadville, Colorado she learns that the gold mine is depleted and worthless. But, is it? The bad guys, lead by Bylle "The Kid" Clyde and his Rat Creek Gang, are trying to convince the widow to sell out and return to Boston. Why? Because the mine is rich in Silver!

The play was previously produced at Heritage High School, Broadlands, IL.

Thus high school aged and above would be appropriate for the cast.

Character list: 17 actors: male/female.
Cast:
ELISA MCKINN ADAMS
Our heroine, an attractive young widow from Boston.
HAROLD MCKINN
Her brother, a young man recently matriculated from Yale.
EVA MARTEL
Elisa=s cousin the famous actress, pretending to be Miss Celia Logan.
MARTHA JANE CANNARY
Better known as Calamity Jane, a frontier scout, stage driver, and even a celebrity in a wild west show.

BYLLE CLYDE
A badlands tough and leader of the infamous Rat Creek Gang.
HOOT BRECKENRIDGE
His particular friend who never entered a battle of wits when not half armed.
MARSHAL JACK DILLON
Tall, heroic, and a surer speedier man on the draw than with his wits. The town of Dillon, Colorado would one day be named for him, then flooded and retitled Dillon Lake.
CONSTANCE TALMADGE
A pioneer lady whose life is one big crusade.
JOY TALMADGE
Constance's daughter-- anything but what her name implies.
MYSTERIOUS LADY IN RED
Exactly what her name implies, a lady of mystery.
HENRY ROLLINS
Her husband, also a mystery.
ELAINE ARMSTEAD
Lovely young mountain lady with definite notions.
