As part of the Station Theatre's presentation of
33 Variations, there will be a Talk Back
with Professors William Kinderman and Katherine Syer of the UIUC School of Music. Kinderman and Syer were major advisors to Mr. Kaufman concerning Beethoven's
work and the musical aspects of the story. In 2007, Kaufman and much of his cast were in residence at the university to "workshop" the production. Kinderman and Syer, who are spouses, are said by Kaufman to have been invaluable to the writing of the play. Professor
Kinderman, also a fine pianist, has recorded The Diabelli Variations (from which the play takes its inspiration), and may be persuaded to play as part of the event. The
Talk Back
will be held on
Friday, January 30, 2015, immediately following the performance of
33 Variations.
