Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, returns home and decides to finally take his father’s ashes to his childhood home, as requested. But when Don discovers Grandma’s house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa in search of a proper resting place. As he drives those familiar roads, the story shifts back and forth from the present to memories of the annual, torturous vacations of Don’s youth. Ultimately, Don’s existential journey leads him to reconcile his past and present at an unpredictable and perfect final destination.

A hilarious, family-friendly comedy that is a toast to the idealism and character of parents from the “greatest generation,” and a little roast of their dedication to the family road trip. This comedy about family and family vacations is a postcard to anyone who has ever found themselves driving alone on a road, revisiting fond memories of their youth.

Leaving Iowa will be performed from Thursday, June 16 through Saturday, July 2, 2016. (Please note that the Saturday, June 18 performance is part of our annual benefit, which cannot be reserved online or over the phone.) All shows start at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $10 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays and $15 on Fridays and Saturdays.

To make a reservation, please call (217) 384-4000 or reserve online. The Station Theatre is located at 223 N. Broadway, Urbana, with free parking directly across the street courtesy of Save-a-Lot.

Bat Boy

book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming

music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe

directed by Mikel L. Matthews, Jr.

musical direction by Griffin Jenkins

Bat Boy is based on a Weekly World News story about a half-human, half-bat boy found living in a cave.

The residents of Hope Falls, West Virginia aren't ready for this seemingly unnatural creature. He's taken in by the Parker family, who teach him how to speak and about our society. Growing quickly to want the things others take for granted, the Bat Boy longs to be among others, just in time for a big tent revival.

Bat Boy is a dark and hysterical look at how we deal with those unlike us and our own demons.
