Timing: AU, Buffy is a college student, she is living at home with her mom and sister Dawn. Willow is her best friend, Angel is Buffy's long-term boyfriend. Everyone is human.

Summary: Angel and Buffy have been together for ages. Angel is working in a law firm called Wolfram and Hart, Buffy is a college student. At one night their friend Cordelia is having a party and Buffy meets an interesting guy there.

Chapter 1

 

"Buffy, are you ready?" 
"Yes Willow, almost. I think. I don't know what to do with my hair!"

"Your hair is always perfect. And Angel is here, we should go."
"Fine, fine."

Buffy came out of the bathroom. She smiled to her boyfriend Angel and best friend Willow. 

"Is Oz coming?" Angel asked.

"Yeah, we'll meet him at Cordelia's house." Willow said. 

"Let's go then!" Buffy said and grabbed Angel's arm. He kissed her quickly and the three of them walked out of the door to Angel's car, and drove quickly to Cordelia's house.

Or it was more like a mansion, Chase's family was one of the richest in Sunnydale.

 

"Buffy!" 
A beautiful, dark-haired girl ran to Buffy and hugged her.
"You look so good today! Not as good as I look though but . you know."
"I know," Buffy smiled at Cordelia.

"And Angel, dark and handsome as always!"
"Cordelia, stop flirting with my boyfriend, you cow," Buffy joked.

"Come inside and have something to drink. There's a lot of beer available."



Angel, Willow and Buffy entered the house.

"Do you want something to drink?" Angel looked at his girlfriend.
"Naah, I'm fine."
"Doyle is there, do you mind if I go talk to him?"

Doyle and Angel had been best friends for years. 
"No, go ahead, I'll go upstairs to see if I can find Xander and Anya," Buffy said.
"And I try to find Oz, see ya!" Willow disappeared to the crowd.

"Take care baby, I'll see you in a minute, ok?" Angel kissed Buffy gently and waved his hand.

 

Buffy looked around her, there were drunken people everywhere. Buffy tried to avoid drinking, she had some bad memories of vomiting and embarrassing herself totally.

She went upstairs. Her former best friend Xander should be there somewhere, he had called her earlier that night. Xander and Buffy used to be really close but then Xander found a girlfriend and he didn't have much time for Buffy and their friendship anymore. Buffy had been missing him and she was hoping they could re-establish their connection. Xander had always been there for her, listening and helping.

 

Buffy needed fresh air, she had been walking around the mansion looking for Xander but obviously he wasn't there. She decided to go outside for a while.

She went to the garden and sat on a white bench by the pool. The moon was full and the stars were shining brightly. Buffy had always considered herself as a night person. She enjoyed walking outside in the moonlight, staying up all night, staring at the stars..

The night was warm but cool breeze made Buffy shiver. She was wearing a white tank top and short skirt. She stared at the sky buried in her thoughts when she heard a voice.

"Isn't it beautiful?"

Buffy turned to see the guy who had walked quietly behind her. Buffy hadn't heard him approaching. 
She had never seen the guy before. Blond hair, piercing blue eyes, black duster and tight black shirt. He was smoking a cigarette and staring at Buffy.

"What is ..beautiful?" She wasn't sure if she had heard him right.

"The moon. Beautiful."
"Yeah. It is."

Buffy turned to look at the moon again and the stranger sat next to her on the bench.

"I have always loved the full moon, it makes me nervous and wild," he said with dreamy voice.

Buffy didn't know what to say. There was something familiar about this guy, but she was sure she had never met him before. 

He was gorgeous. His face was almost beautiful, lips delicate and soft and his eyes penetrated Buffy, like they were staring straight into her soul. Buffy felt nervous like a little girl. 

"I'm Spike, by the way," he said and threw his cigarette to the pool.

"Buffy."
"Nice to meet you Buffy," Spike said and wide smile crept to his face. He looked absolutely stunning. 

"Are you a friend of Cordelia?" Buffy tried to sound casual.

"Yeah, she and my girlfriend Drusilla are friends or something, I don't know."
"Oh." 

Buffy remembered Drusilla. She had seen her few times with Cordelia. Buffy had always thought that Drusilla was creepy, she was a goth with insane sense of humour and weird obsession about pain, vampires, blood and all that.  

"What about you? Are you with someone?"
"Yes, Angel."
"I know the guy. Seen him few times in the gym."
An awkward silence fell between them. Spike was staring at the moon with distant eyes and Buffy wasn't sure if she had to say something or just disappear.

"I should go back inside, Angel is probably looking for me."
"What ever you want, pet," Spike said with devilish grin.

 Buffy was uncertain what to do so she tried to get up but Spike placed his hand to her arm and she sat back down.

"You are even more beautiful than the moonlight," Spike said quietly and looked deep into Buffy's eyes. His hand was warm on her cool skin and his blue eyes were sparkling. There was no trace of smile on his face anymore and he sounded serious. 

Buffy almost forgot to breath. 

It had been a long time ago since she had reacted to someone's words like that. This strange guy, this Spike captured her totally. His words were swirling around her head and she felt shivers running down her spine. His hand was strong and Buffy didn't want to move away from his touch.

She was like spellbound. 

The moonlight was dancing on Buffy's golden hair and Spike noticed how young and innocent she looked. When he had seen her sitting on the bench, enjoying the view of the nightly sky she had reminded him of a painting or a sculpture he had seen a long time ago. And that's what she was, a perfect piece of art, created by a talented, skilful artist. Created to be admired by the viewers. 

And he admired. More than he liked to admit to himself. 

 

"Buffy, are you here?" 
Buffy recognized the voice of her best friend. She freed herself from Spike's touch and stood up quickly.

"Willow, I'm here."
The red-haired girl appeared behind few trees.

"There you are, I've been looking for you," she said and took Buffy's hand, "now let's go, Angel and Oz are waiting. It's time for dancing." 

Buffy looked at Spike one more time and then followed Willow back to the house.
