Bad English forgiven, especially since I don't speak a lick of 
Italian.  In the Autobiography, I believe he does mention he 
uses "Diane" as a way of addressing the recording.  However, I do 
believe he also mentions giving tapes to Diane to transcribe.  If 
someone has read it in the last 8 years, you can probably correct me.
It could be that he also uses the tapes as a mnemonic device, as if 
reinforcing his memory.  He asks Diane for the earplugs, he remembers 
to call and ask for them later.  Just a thought.
