Mark Frost hints at possible Twin Peaks return
----------------------------------------------

Though it's unlikely Santa will be leaving anything wrapped in red
curtain under the tree this year, 'Twin Peaks' co-creator Mark Frost
has offered fans of the cult '90s series a hint at a present they
might be unwrapping in the future.

Speaking to Sci-Fi Now mag, Frost - suggesting that 'Twin Peaks'
should've run five seasons, not two - reveals that there's been talk
of bringing back the wacky soap he conceived with David Lynch. 'Who
knows what will happen in the future', Frost says of an initially
proposed five-season plan for the series, that's second season ended
with an assumed never-to-be-solved cliff-hanger.
Bringing the show back is 'something we talk about from time to time',
says the 'Hill Street Blues' alum. 'If we ever do decide to move
forward, I know we have a rich trove to draw from.'
The author and Frost speculate that the third season could
realistically be set 25 years on (perfect timing, really, considering
the show's age), picking up from the original's iconic dream sequence
between Cooper, Laura and the backwards-speaking dwarf, that took
place in the original series 25 years into the future. It's suggested
that, in addition to Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee and Michael
J.Anderson, that Heather Graham would be back, reprising her role as
Cooper's tormented girlfriend Annie. Frost remarks that they did have
a plan for a season 3, but ABC axed the show before they could commit
to the proposal. Today's incarnation of a third season would obviously
be something different.

Writer and EP Bob Engels told Moviehole a while back that that they
had a fairly good idea where to take the series had ABC given them
another shot. He also mentioned the possibility of a return-to-air all
these years later. Englels recalls an idea that would've made
doppelgangers a huge focus of the show, meaning everyone would have a
second out there. 'Audrey survived. They all survived', Engels said of
the bank bombing that concluded Season 2. 'that world of doppelgangers
and a reality that's just behind another reality, there can be another
Audrey - that was the area I would've liked to have explored. And yeah
I think it was Harley Peyton who thought up the idea of Audrey being
pregnant. We discussed the idea of going ten-years forward... the
screen would say 'Ten Years Later' and all the characters would be
doing different things. But I think, in reality, once we saw that the
numbers had dwindled, we knew we were done. I think if we could figure
out a way to do [a third season now], I think everybody would have fun
going back. You just don't want to do Return to Mayberry. It'd be a
miracle to get the whole group back together again but I think, all
things being equal, they'd say 'I'm in'. I certainly would. I get a
call once every six months or so from someone asking, 'What do you
think about doing Twin Peaks again?' but it's not my call. If David
and Mark are in, then yes. [Occasionally] The network will come to me
and say 'What do you think about this?' Thing is, all the writers and
directors from the show have gone to have nice careers, and none of
them will want to come back and do, as I said, Return to Mayberry.'

Look at TNT's 'Dallas' - it too returned after such a lengthy break,
and it succeeded with flying colours. If ABC doesn't want in on 'Twin
Peaks 2.0??, then might I recommend TNT, David and Mark!?
