Even if Lynch wasn't forced by the Executives to change the plot?

I'm sure that Lara Flynn Boyle may have left, and so may Amick.

It's a bit like travelling back in time to World War 2 and killing Hitler
and stopping the Japanese Emperor; and then you realise your dad was a dumb
and dumber wannabe who never gets married since your mum married an undead
soldier.
