Thanks for doing this thankless task Lars, itʼs much appreciated. I
definitely did not want to have to start actually receiving emails
from the lists I follow.

Aside: have you looked at 'Public Inbox' <https://public-inbox.org/>?
That seems to provide quite a bit of what gmane does, plus it has git
support.
