Re: Update your news reader to point to news.gmane.io

I've been talking about a "success rate" in these posts -- by that I
mean that I successfully added a list to the gmane-mx.org addresses.
(And it's about 35%.)  But I really don't know how many lists are alive,
so I don't know what the rate should be...

However, I added some logging earlier today to see how many mails are
arriving to gmane-mx.org vs the old gmane.org addresses, and that offers
a different data set: It'll only say something about lists that are
active enough to have a message sent today, though.

2600 messages arrived for gmane.org, and 16000 arrived for gmane-mx.org,
which means that the success rate may be something like 85% instead.

Even that's a number to be taken with some grains of salt: I've checked
a few of the most active lists, and they are arriving to both -mx and
not, so this means that the subscription was successful, while the
unsubscription wasn't.

The mysteries of email.

There's about 10K messages in the outbound queue on the MTA, and the
logs are full of stuff like:

Which either means that the lists (and hosts) are gone, or that somebody
is using RBLs for blocking network traffic, or they're using Fail2ban or
something (see https://lars.ingebrigtsen.no/2020/01/10/spamtraps/).

(I had to set the connection timeout way down to get any action on the
mail queue.)

Oh, and the most peculiar network action is from the IETF MTA: They have
a limit of one mail per five minutes...  but they don't reject mails
completely.  So there's still about 300 messages in the outbound queue
to IETF.

Once that's drained, I'll be moving the server over, I guess, to the
projected moveover time is now...  Mondayish.
