Oh, I fully 100% agree. That feature is the bane of my existance. I just
always assumed it was somehow a non-negotiable condition for some lists
to even allow Gmane to subscribe. If that's not the case, good riddance!

That brings up the second part of my question - if by some brilliant
stroke of good fortune we _do_ decide to turn that feature off, is it
reversible for lists that already have it? Or is the pre-hashed
information just lost?
