	They can be very protective. When I retired in November of '98, I 
switched from Listserv's index option on a library catalogers' list, 
which was open to the public, and afaik still is, to a Gmane 
subscription. I went right on participating as well as reading, through 
changes of venue and of listowners -- until June 2019, well over twenty 
years, when somehow that list fell off the groups list.

	I notified the current listowners, who seemed never to have heard 
of Gmane; when they had informed themselves, they chose not to resume, on 
the grounds that Gmane keeps an archive not under their control. (I 
merely report; I can't begin to understand.)
