How to keep gmane long enough to send a posting

Here lately I'm having trouble getting a posting typed and sent before
gmane connection closes or at least becomes unresponsive.

If I go to server buffer [`^'] and Close [Ctrl-C] and then open
[Ctrl-O] the group in question ...  (and note that the open usually
takes from 1.5 or more minutes to happen), then hurry back to the
un-posted message buffer, I can then send it.

The whole operation will be necessary again after a few minutes if I
try to post another message.

This wasn't the case a while back...

I don't mean back before the advent of gmane .. io, I mean more like a
1.5 or maybe 2 months ago.

Is there anything I can do about this?
