I made a patch (revision 31766) using UTF-16 instead of UCS-2 as default encoder. UTF-16 is an extension of UCS-2 that allow the representation of code points above U+FFFF. While UTF-16 and UCS-2 have the same representation for Unicode points below U+FFFF, values above (like U+10000) cannot be represented in UCS-2.
