Thanks for the response, Martin.

I'd be looking for a way of recording everything that users can do by typing 
and hotkeys, and then wrapping a recorded macro into a loop, with the normal 
control flow features that exist in modern programming languages.

I would want something with the simplicity of VBA in MS Word, not the 
unintelligible mumbo-jumbo in Open Office macros.

It would be good for the programming language to be as close as possible to 
an established language, such as Python, BASIC or Java.

Hi Jim,

We do not have concrete plans for macros, however it is possible to do
some automation via the command-line interface in the linux version. I
imagine that this would be rather complex for regular users.

What are you looking for as a baseline collection of features for macros?
