I use it like this: my text has "November" appearing several times.
Now a few of these now have to read "December" -- but not all, and
some of them will need the word "single" changed to "double" close
by (like in a spreadsheet or computer code). Global search/replace
with Y/N? confirm won't do this in one pass, so I'll use overwrite
to save some keystrokes.

This only comes up a few times a month for me but I'm glad there's
an overwrite mode when it does.
