I am running Gtk 2.16, but without gvfs. Thus, non-local uri schemes aren't
supported.

Ok, my bad. I tried to ensure that gvfs is available with Gtk to get support
for uri schemes such as http://, but obviously I misunderstood the meaning of
WITH_GNOMEVFS. My apologies.
