I use Abiword 2.8.2 and it does exactly what you want, just don't select any
text or "Apply" changes:
Format
`-> Create and Modify Styles
`-> Modify (select your style first)
`-> Paragraph (e. g.)
Then do your changes, Ok, Ok, Close and you're done. It changes all the text
having the modified style.
