Actually, having two versions installed is usually OK.

I don't think that's the case.

Is there a symlink in either /usr/lib64/qt-3.3/bin/ or /usr/NX/bin/ that
points to the abiword in /usr/bin/?

If that's the case, the symlink could be modified to point to
/usr/local/bin/abiword.
