Inserting hyperlinks in AbiWord

Hi,

Me and a few friend of mine would like to switch to AbiWord as the 
primary word word processor. But the current hyperlinks system is 
proving a blockade. For our work, we need to insert a lot of URL's into 
documents, and the Microsoft WinWord system for that is ideally suited. 
AbiWord, as far as we can make out, can only hyperlink some of the 
existing text. But we need to insert new text as hyperlink.

Is there some way we can achieve that ?
