Yes, the selection stuff on element-"borders" is sometimes tricky...

Yes, could be the same problem.

I currently don't have a solution to that problem, it's really hard, to 
do the "right" thing in such situations...

Could you please file a bugreport, so that it doesn't get forgotten?
