encoding problem

Hello, bitfluxeditors simple example works fine in encoding=iso-8859-1. I've tried to do it in encoding=UTF-8: the editor is rendering correctly but after saving my data.xml is in iso-8859-1. The encoding seems to be set by a bitfluxeditor script. Which one? How can I change this behaviour?
