As we are coming to the year end of 2006, we are getting closer to releasing jEdit 4.3 final! There are lots of improvements over 4.2, and the list just goes on and on. I've taken steps to open up the development of jEdit by inviting more people to participate, and helping to take the fruits of their labor and make it avaliable to the public in a relatively timely fashion. On the personal front, I got a day-job, so I'm not spending hours at home hacking on jEdit like I used to. Since I do use it for work, I will continue certain regular maintenance activities though, but I won't have as much time as I did last year. >> jEdit 4.3pre8 is out - almost ready for 4.3final! I didn't even "announce" 4.3pre7, but now that 4.3pre8 is out, it doesn't matter! Thanks Vampire, for fixing the .deb files and building the .exe and .dmg files too! This might be the last or second to last "pre" release before 4.3final, so be sure to try it out. Personally, I'm looking forward to releasing 4.3 so that we no longer need to support 4.2final @ plugin central. There are still some bugs in the new keyboard handling, but the ones I find most annoying are all in M$-Windows, so I could use someone who is good at Java and uses M$-Windows to help us debug it. >> 18 Plugins updated/released since 2006-09-05: Browsing the tracker items in the plugin submissions, I see that there are a whole lot of new(er) plugins. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=browse&group_id=588&atid=625093 The last time we posted a plugin update was 2006-09-05. Since then, the following plugins have been updated or released: FastOpen 2.1 - now its dockable works as well as its popup XSearch 1.3.1 - has a new tabbed layout FTP 0.8 - bugfix Beauty 0.2 - bugfix JavaSideKcik 2.3.1 - bugfix and enhancements XML 2.0.4 - bugfix and enhancements - and new parsers SideKick 0.6.7 - bugfix ErrorList 1.4.2 - bugfix Jump 0.3.3 - bugfix ProjectViewer 2.1.3.5 - bugfix and enhancements ShortcutDisplay 1.2 - bugfix Console 4.2.6.5 - now it runs interactive shells again! It contains many links of interest to jedit developers all on one page. >> Plugin Releaser I need another person to help with plugin releases. I will train you in how to do it. You must have good skills with Apache Ant and Java. Please contact me. >> Community Site We need some help with the community site. Basically, there is an old Twiki and an old Drupal, and we would like to import this data into a new Drupal (or some other content management system which is easy to maintain and has good spam blocking options). Any volunteers to help with that? Alternately, I'm thinking we could take down the old site and just start a new one and let people populate it with stuff again... I think some of its content is very old and doesn't need to be moved, and perhaps we just need people to go through it all and re-post it to the new site in updated form. Note there is a "feature requests" forum and also a "feature requests" tracker. I'd like ot take down the feature requests forum. The tracker is the one we use officially. The forum doesn't assign numbers to the items, so it is not as useful. The other discussions could be moved to jedit-users, and I know some people don't like having to subscribe to mailing lists, but it is possible to view the messages via SourceForge.net's web interface. ------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
