Re: Daily build - file association

Haven't been paying attention to the mailing list recently but saw you were having file association issues under Win 7. I didn't see that you ever got an answer on this so here's a walk-through on how to do this:


1.       Bring up the Windows Control Panel app.

2.       In the "Search Control Panel" box at the top-right of the window type in "file association"

3.       Under "Folder Options" there should be a link which says "Change the file type associated with a file extension". Click on this link.

4.       Find the extension you care about in the list and double-click it.

5.       If jEdit shows up in the list of programs click on it. Otherwise:

A.      Click the Browse... button.

B.      In the "Open with..." dialog, navigate to where you have jEdit installed (on my machine it's C:\Program Files\jEdit)

C.      Select jEdit.exe

D.      Click the "Open" button on the "Open with..." dialog.

E.       Ensure "jEdit - Programmer's Text Editor" is selected in the dialog.

F.       Click "OK" on the "Open with" dialog.

6.       Verify that "jEdit - Programmer's Text Editor" is now associated with the extension you care about.

I upgraded to 5.4.0 today - actually I uninstalled all my other
instances first, and got a clean Application Settings directory, and
migrated in whatever settings I wanted from my old directory, just to
be sure I didn't bring along any weird behavior from before. I'm still
having file association problems.

Jesse - I tried a CSS file too just in case XSL was being weird.

Whenever I follow the usual steps ...
* Right-click the file, Open With, Choose Default Program, Browse,
navigate to & select jedit.exe ...
I get taken right back to the "Open with" dialog box and jedit has NOT
been added to the list of programs I can open with.

Thankfully, I do at least have the "Open with jEdit" option in the
context menu on files, but I sure do miss that double-click action.

This is on Windows 7.
