Hi Sarah,

I don't know, what's going on. But I guess it's a Windows problem.
Since the ordinary manual way doesn't work for You, I would try it
at a lower level:

Please create a text file with this content:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\shell\Open with
jEdit]

"Icon"="G:\\Tools\\jEdit_53\\jedit.exe"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\shell\Open with
jEdit\Command]

@="\"G:\\Tools\\jEdit_53\\jedit.exe\" \"%1\""

and replace the path to jedit.exe with Your correct path. Note
that backslashes which are parts of a pathname has to be
duplicated inside this fie. If You don't have administration
permissions, then also replace "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" by
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER".

Save the edited file and run it by double-clicking and confirm the
questions with OK.

If this didn't help I'd have a look into the registry with
registry editor...

I can see I'm not explaining my problem very well,
so let me try providing screenshots. I do click the "Browse"
button, like in this picture:

http://tinypic.com/r/2mxgba1/9

Then I do navigate to jedit.exe, as you describe, like in
this picture:

http://tinypic.com/r/2wnb4fr/9

But after that step, jEdit does NOT appear in the list of
options - here is what I get:

http://tinypic.com/r/30ma2xi/9

http://tinypic.com/r/1036j4g/9

So I'm unable to complete Step 5E: Ensure
“jEdit – Programmer’s Text Editor” is selected in the
dialog.

Does my problem make sense? Am I missing something obvious?

thanks,

Sarah
