And I find it fascinating that jEdit’s sftp works fine on the server that I have access to, but not on this other one. If the server where it doesn’t work is visible on the web, perhaps a Test account could be set up for debugging

Personally I find the idea that if some plugin has problems moving a 
file in and out of an FTP server that also accepts SSH connections, then 
the solution is to try and edit that file with a different editor... 
fascinating.
