Re: Character encodings for files

Unfortunately, there isn't a built-in way to do that, and I'm not aware of
a plugin that provides that feature. The jEdit API doesn't really provide a
way to set encoding by file type, rather it uses bytes from an input stream
and doesn't give access to the file itself, so without an API change, a
plugin couldn't do what you're asking.

I'm assuming you have the auto detect encoding turned on?
