jedit 5.6.0 does not run on java11

Hi,
First I apologize if this issue is not for the entire list to see.
I could not make an account on the drupal jedit.org page hence I had
to resort to this last and desperate measure ... hope I don't get
banned :) ...
I love jedit since a long long time and I wish to use it for as long
as possible.
I am running a linux machine with java 11 installed (several versions
but the one I use is mainly java11)
When I start jedit from cli  with:
java -cp ./jars -jar jedit.jar
or any simply:
java -jar jedit
I get this nasty error that I can not sort were it comes from:

I am trying to run the latest 5.6.0 jedit available for download and
no matter how I try it always gives me this result.
With ... some exceptions ... I issued once the start command right
after the error and once in awhile the application start and opens all
my previous workspace.
Is there a fix for this?
